Bread of Life COVID-19 response


Bread of Life is designated as providing "essential services" during the state’s “stay-at-home” advisory through May 8th as “Workers who support food, shelter, and social services, and other necessities of life for economically disadvantaged or otherwise needy individuals, such as those residing in shelters “

Malden Food Pantry at 54 Eastern Ave. GRAB-AND-GO PRE-BAGGED GROCERIES. Face masks required. Please stay 6 feet from others. Please have only one person per family attend. We ask people not to come if they are experiencing any symptoms of sickness, including sneezing, coughing or fever. Serves residents of Malden, Everett, Medford, Melrose, Saugus, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester, Reading and North Reading. Check in at the office window.

Hours: Wednesdays 4-6 pm and Fridays 2-4 pm

Grocery Delivery available for senior citizens, disabled residents and families with special circumstances, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 4-6 pm. May self-refer or be referred by an agency. Contact Gabriella Snyder Stelmack at gabriella.stelmack@breadoflifemalden.org or 781-475-9060.

Everett Food Pantry - CLOSED AS OF MARCH 13 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Everett residents are welcome to pick up food from our Malden Pantry or sign up for grocery delivery.

Evening Meals at First Baptist Church, corner of Main & Salem Streets, Malden. GRAB-AND-GO MEALS available on the front lawn. There is no congregate dining. Open to all, from any city, without application or reservation.

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 5:30 - 6:30 pm

We invite all our partner organizations and volunteers to continue to provide food and a limited amount of volunteers to prepare and package food in the kitchen of First Baptist Church, 3:30-7pm. Food donations - according to the CDC and the Greater Boston Food Bank, there is no evidence that the US food supply is compromised by COVID-19. Bread of Life is happy to receive your PERISHABLE AND NON-PERISHABLE food donations for our food pantry at 54 Eastern Ave in Malden, Tuesday - Friday, 12 - 5 pm, as well as for our evening meals at First Baptist Church, corner of Main & Salem Streets in Malden, Tuesday - Friday, 4 - 7 pm.

Clothing - we are NOT accepting clothing donations as of March 17 due to restricted access of patrons to our sites, and the need to minimize potential contact with virus.

Food Pantry

Volunteers needed at Bread of Life, 54 Eastern Ave, Malden, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays:
Tuesdays    12-5 pm
Wednesday 12-6 pm  (contact McKay if interested)
Thursdays   12-5 pm

To help meet increased need we have expanded opportunities for volunteering Tuesday and Thursdays till 5pm. No need to contact us beforehand, volunteers can just show up to help clean, prepare and assemble food bags.

We also still need new pantry volunteers Wednesday afternoons to clean, set-up, and give out food from outside the building. Anyone interested in volunteering on a Wednesday should contact McKay Russo, Pantry Coordinator, directly: mckay.russo@breadoflifemalden.org, 781-475-9070

Drivers to pick up food donations from individual's porches or businesses, and to deliver groceries or meals in "drop-and-go" fashion. Contact Gabriella Snyder Stelmack, Executive Director, 781-475-9050 or email gabriella.stelmack@breadoflifemalden.org.

COVID-19 Protocols for Volunteers:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

  • Use alcohol-based hand rubs and gels which BOL supplies

  • Wear disposable gloves which BOL supplies

  • Wear mask that covers your nose and mouth. BOL can give you washable reusable mask as supplies last. Wash in hot water and bleach.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands or gloves

  • Avoid close contact with clients or volunteers, staying 6 feet away from others as much as possible

  • Stay home if you are sick, don't feel right, or are coughing, sneezing or have a fever

  • If you do cough or sneeze while volunteering, cover your face in the crook of your elbow

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces such as pens, door handles, computer keyboard & mouse, desks, light switches, etc.
